The Brink

The Brink is an action crime film centered on the conflict between a reckless police inspector and a gold smuggler. The officer pursues the criminal through the ports of Hong Kong, where smuggling rings use fishing boats as cover. As internal power struggles divide the criminal syndicate, the smuggler faces betrayal and loss of status, eventually leading him to a confrontation with a triad boss hiding on a casino cruise ship. The police inspector tracks the smuggler to the same vessel, resulting in a final clash.

Directed by Jonathan Li Tsz-Chun, this was the first of three films he directed, followed by Dust To Dust and Behind the Shadows. The movie features a large credited cast of 98 people, including Zhang Jin, Shawn Yue, Janice Man, Wu Yue, Tai Bo, and Cecilia So Lai-Shan. The screenplay was written by Melvin Li and produced by Paco Wong Pak-Go and Soi Cheang.

Produced with a budget of 100 million USD, the film received a moderate reception from viewers. It holds a rating of 5.6/10 on IMDb based on 775 votes and a similar score of 5.7/10 on TMDB from 53 votes.
