Operation Red Sea

Operation Red Sea follows the Jiaolong assault team, an elite unit of the Chinese navy also known as Sea Dragon. After an operation against pirates off the Somali coast, the squad is sent to an Arabian Peninsula nation where a coup has plunged the country into civil war. Their task is to evacuate Chinese citizens and embassy staff, but the mission grows more dangerous when they learn that local rebels and a terrorist group are pursuing a shipment of radioactive material. The team must not only bring their compatriots to safety but also prevent a larger catastrophe.

Dante Lam directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Lin Ming-Chie and Feng Ji. It followed his 2016 film Operation Mekong in his filmography. The cast includes Zhang Yi as Yang Rui, Johnny Huang as Gu Shun, Hai Qing as Xia Nan, Du Jiang as Xu Hong, Zhang Hanyu as Gao Yun and Jiang Luxia as Tong Li, among 29 credited performers.

Made for about 70 million US dollars, the film took roughly 579 million US dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.4 from 447 votes, while a film critics' rating stands at 7.3 from 10 reviews, showing broad approval from both audiences and critics.
