I Am Number Four

I Am Number Four follows John Smith, a teenager who has spent years moving from town to town with his guardian, Henri, never staying anywhere long enough to put down roots. His restlessness has a purpose: John is not human but one of nine survivors from a distant planet, hiding on Earth from the alien force that destroyed his home world and has been hunting the fugitives ever since. Three of the nine have already been killed, and John knows he is next in line. When he and Henri settle in a small Ohio town, John begins to develop extraordinary abilities and forms a connection with a classmate, even as the enemies closing in on him draw nearer.

The film was directed by D. J. Caruso, the sixth of the ten features he has directed to date, following Disturbia and Eagle Eye. Miles Millar, Alfred Gough and Marti Noxon wrote the screenplay, with Michael Bay among the producers. Alex Pettyfer plays John, alongside Dianna Agron, Timothy Olyphant, Teresa Palmer, Kevin Durand and Callan McAuliffe. Made for about 50 million dollars, it took roughly 150 million worldwide.

Audience response was moderate: on IMDb it holds 6.1/10 from about 253,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2/10 from a much smaller base of just over 5,000. A film critics' rating of 4.7/10 from 166 reviews sits below both, indicating that critics were notably less positive than viewers.
