A Private War

A Private War follows Marie Colvin, an American war correspondent known for her willingness to report from the front lines of conflicts around the world. She moves easily between London society and dangerous combat zones, driven by a need to give a voice to people whose stories would otherwise go unheard. The work takes a physical and personal toll, and she continues reporting after losing an eye to a grenade blast in Sri Lanka. Her most dangerous assignment comes when she and war photographer Paul Conroy travel to the besieged Syrian city of Homs.

The film is directed by Matthew Heineman, working from a screenplay by Arash Amel. It is Heineman's second narrative feature, following his 2015 documentary Cartel Land and preceding American Symphony in 2023. Rosamund Pike plays Colvin, with Jamie Dornan as Conroy, Tom Hollander as Sean Ryan and Stanley Tucci as Tony Shaw. The production was handled by Thunder Road, Savvy Media Holdings, Denver and Delilah Productions and Kamala Films, with Charlize Theron among the producers.

Released in November 2018, the film runs 106 minutes. It earned a 7 out of 10 from 147 critics, while audiences gave it 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 22,000 votes and 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 570 votes. It grossed about 4 million dollars worldwide.
