Sheila, a woman going through a difficult period, finds a striking red dress in a London department store during its winter sales. The dress fits her perfectly, and she becomes convinced it will change her life for the better. What she does not realise is that the store and its staff are tied to something far older and stranger, and that the garment carries a curse. After Sheila, the dress moves on to other owners, bringing misfortune to each of them in turn.

In Fabric is a British horror comedy written and directed by Peter Strickland, his third feature after Berberian Sound Studio and The Duke of Burgundy, and it followed The Thing the same year. The large ensemble includes Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Sheila, Sidse Babett Knudsen as Jill, Julian Barratt as Stash, Richard Bremmer as Mr. Lundy, Fatma Mohamed as Miss Luckmoore and Gwendoline Christie as Gwen, with 41 credited cast members and 73 credited crew. Andrew Starke produced, and BBC Film, the BFI and Rook Films were among the production companies.

The film's critical reception stands out against its audience scores: critics rated it 7.5/10 across 157 reviews, while viewers gave it 6.1/10 on IMDb from around 16,000 votes and 5.6/10 on TMDB from roughly 385 votes. The divide suggests a film that reviewers found more rewarding than general audiences did. It runs 118 minutes.
