Resistance

Set in France during the Second World War, Resistance follows Marcel, a young man from a Jewish family in Strasbourg who joins the French Resistance after the German occupation. He becomes involved in efforts to protect Jewish children, using his developing talents as a mime to calm and distract them while they are moved toward safety, at times across the mountains into Switzerland. His father is deported to Auschwitz, leaving Marcel and his brother to continue the work largely on their own. Emma, a woman he comes to know, is part of his life during this period, while the Gestapo officer Klaus Barbie poses a persistent threat to the operation.

Jesse Eisenberg plays Marcel, with Clémence Poésy as Emma, Matthias Schweighöfer as Klaus Barbie, Bella Ramsey as Elsbeth, Edgar Ramírez as Elsbeth's father Sigmund, and Ed Harris as George S. Patton. Jonathan Jakubowicz wrote and directed the film, his second feature after Hands of Stone in 2016. Schweighöfer is among the producers, alongside Patrick Zorer and Dan Maag. The production was an international one, involving companies from Germany and the United States and shot with backing from several countries.

Resistance runs 120 minutes and was released in March 2020. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from more than 8,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7 out of 10 from a smaller base of a few hundred votes, indicating a modest but generally positive response from those who have seen it.
