Knocked Up

Alison Scott is a young television journalist whose career is on the rise. Ben Stone is an unemployed slacker who lives with a group of like-minded friends and is trying to launch a website of dubious taste. After a drunken night together, the two part ways, but eight weeks later Alison learns she is pregnant. She decides to keep the baby and reaches out to Ben, who is stunned by the news. The two then attempt a relationship for the child's sake, though their different temperaments and lifestyles quickly create friction. Among the few models of parenthood around them are Alison's stressed sister Debbie and her husband Pete.

Judd Apatow directed and wrote the film, which followed his 2005 directorial debut The 40 Year-Old Virgin in his filmography and was produced by Apatow, Clayton Townsend and Shauna Robertson for Universal Pictures and Apatow Productions. Seth Rogen plays Ben, Katherine Heigl plays Alison, and Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Jason Segel and Jay Baruchel appear among the large credited cast. Made for about 30 million dollars, it took in roughly 220 million worldwide. Audiences are more measured than critics: the film holds a critics' rating of 8 out of 10 from 249 reviews, an IMDb score of 6.9 from around 398,000 votes and a TMDB rating of 6.3 from more than 4,400 votes.
