Short description
A ship carrying settlers to a new home on Mars after Earth is rendered uninhabitable is knocked off-course, causing the passengers to consider their place in the universe.
What's left behind the scenes
- The word “Aniara” was invented by the Swedish writer and poet Harry Martinson (1904-1978). It is believed to mean the name of the space where atoms move, and Martinson came up with it while reading the works of astronomer Arthur Stanley Eddington (1882-1944).
- The main character, played by Emely Garbers, reads the poem “Aniara” by Swedish writer Harry Martinson at a funeral, which became the literary source of the screenplay (Martinson himself is mentioned in the credits as a screenwriter).
