Red Riding Hood

Valerie lives in the village of Daggerhorn, where an uneasy arrangement has long kept a werewolf at bay: a monthly animal offering satisfies the creature. When the beast kills a human instead, and that victim turns out to be Valerie's older sister, the village's fear boils over. Valerie is caught between two men. Her parents have promised her to Henry, the heir to the town's wealthiest family, but she loves Peter, a woodcutter, and the two plan to flee together. Their plans collapse after the killing. The villagers bring in Father Solomon, a hunter who warns that the wolf walks as a person by day, meaning any neighbour could be the killer. Valerie learns she shares a connection to the creature that makes her both a suspect and a target.

The film is loosely drawn from the Little Red Riding Hood tale, with the red cloak and the surrounding forest retained. Catherine Hardwicke directed it, following Twilight and The Nativity Story in her filmography; David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick wrote the screenplay, and the producers included Leonardo DiCaprio. Amanda Seyfried plays Valerie, with Gary Oldman as Father Solomon, Shiloh Fernandez as Peter, Max Irons as Henry, and Julie Christie as Valerie's grandmother.

Released in March 2011, it cost around 42 million dollars and took roughly 89 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.4 from about 119,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 from a far smaller pool, and critics rated it 3.8 from 208 reviews, placing it below both audience scores.
