Breaking In

Shaun Russell brings her son and daughter to her late father's isolated country house, a property fitted with extensive security systems. What should have been a quiet trip to settle his affairs turns dangerous when four men arrive looking for money hidden somewhere inside. The intruders take the two children hostage and shut Shaun out of the house, leaving her to find a way past the very defences meant to keep people out and get her family back.

James McTeigue directed the film, his fifth feature after V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin, The Raven and Survivor. Ryan Engle wrote the screenplay, and Gabrielle Union stars as Shaun, also serving as a producer alongside Will Packer and Craig Perry. Billy Burke, Richard Cabral, Ajiona Alexus, Levi Meaden and Seth Carr round out the main cast.

Made for about 6 million dollars, the film took roughly 49 million dollars worldwide, a strong return relative to its cost. Audience responses were middling: it holds 5.5 out of 10 on IMDb from over sixteen thousand votes and 5.9 out of 10 on TMDB from several hundred. A critics' rating of 4.2 out of 10 from 108 reviews puts it below both audience scores.
