Never Grow Old is a western set in the frontier town of Garlow during the California Gold Rush era. Once a quiet and God-fearing place, the town changes when the outlaw Dutch Albert and his gang arrive and begin spreading violence and lawlessness. The only person who prospers from the mounting death toll is Patrick Tate, an Irish undertaker who earns good money burying the victims. His profitable position becomes untenable when the gang's threats reach his own household, forcing him to weigh his family's safety against the income the killings bring him.
Ivan Kavanagh wrote and directed the film, which followed his 2014 feature The Canal and preceded Son in 2021. Emile Hirsch plays Patrick Tate, with John Cusack as Dutch Albert, Déborah François as Audrey Tate, Danny Webb as Preacher Pike and Tim Ahern as Sheriff Parker. The production, a European co-production involving companies in Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg and France, was made for a budget of 12 million dollars.
Released in March 2019, the film runs 101 minutes and holds a rating of 6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 5,400 votes, with the same score on TMDB from roughly 240 votes. A critics' rating of 6.8 out of 10 from 22 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores on both platforms.
