Pass Over

Moses and Kitch are two young Black men who spend a long, aimless day talking on a Chicago street corner. Their conversation ranges widely and turns poetic, funny and sometimes profane, and it is what carries them through a day that repeats the same pattern as every other. Their routine is broken by gunfire they must dodge, by visits from a friendly but menacing stranger, and by a hostile police officer. All the while, the two men hold on to the hope of escape.

Spike Lee directs this adaptation of Antoinette Nwandu's play, which she also wrote for the screen. The film is a variation on the waiting-and-talking structure of Samuel Beckett's work, relocated to a contemporary American street. Lee directed it between BlacKkKlansman and Da 5 Bloods, the twenty-fourth of the twenty-six features he has directed in chronological order. Jon Michael Hill and Julian Parker play Moses and Kitch, with Ryan Hallahan as Mister and Blake DeLong as Ossifer. Danya Taymor is also credited as director. The production was handled by Amazon Studios and Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, and the film runs seventy-five minutes.
