A Journal for Jordan

A Journal for Jordan tells the true story of First Sergeant Charles Monroe King, a soldier sent to Iraq who starts writing a journal for the infant son he has barely seen. The entries are meant to pass on his love and his guidance for living a decent life, even if the boy grows up without him. At home in New York, Dana Canedy, a senior editor at the Times, looks back on how she and King came together and on his commitment to her and their child during his deployment.

The film is based on Canedy's memoir about King and was adapted by screenwriter Virgil Williams. Denzel Washington directed, his fourth feature behind the camera after Antwone Fisher, The Great Debaters and Fences. Michael B. Jordan plays King and Chanté Adams plays Canedy, with Jalon Christian as Jordan and Robert Wisdom, Tamara Tunie and Jasmine Batchelor in supporting roles. The credited cast runs to twenty-one names.

Released in December 2021, the drama had a budget of about 25 million dollars and took in roughly 7 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 3,400 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.9 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of 128. A critics' score of 5.1 out of 10 from 61 reviews places it below both audience figures.
