Unfriended: Dark Web

Unfriended: Dark Web follows a young man named Matias who gets hold of a laptop and discovers hidden files showing disturbing material from the dark web. What begins as curiosity turns dangerous when an unknown user reaches out, apparently the laptop's previous owner, determined to recover what was taken. As Matias and his friends are drawn deeper into the hidden corners of the internet, they come to realize that someone has been tracking them, and that a malicious presence can reach them through the very screens and cameras they rely on. The film unfolds largely in real time on computer displays, with the group communicating by video chat from separate locations.

Stephen Susco wrote and directed the film, marking his move into the director's chair after a career as a screenwriter. Produced by Timur Bekmambetov, Jason Blum and Majd Nassif for Blumhouse and Bazelevs, it is a follow-up to the 2014 horror film Unfriended, which Bekmambetov also produced. The cast is led by Colin Woodell as Matias, alongside Rebecca Rittenhouse, Betty Gabriel, Connor Del Rio, Andrew Lees and Stephanie Nogueras. Shot for roughly one million dollars, it went on to earn about sixteen million worldwide against that modest outlay.

Audiences are divided on the film, with a 6.1 rating on IMDb from 43,000 votes and a slightly warmer 6.3 on TMDB from a much smaller 1,708 votes. The critics' rating of 5.8 from 120 reviews places professional reaction somewhat below the general audience response.
