The World to Come

Set in the mid-19th century on the American frontier in New York, the story follows two couples living on neighboring farms. Abigail and Tallie form a deep connection to cope with the physical and psychological hardships of their isolated rural environment. Their initial friendship evolves into a passionate romantic relationship, which creates tension and conflict with their respective husbands.

The film was directed by Mona Fastvold and marks the first of three listed works in her directorial career. The screenplay was written by Ron Hansen and Jim Shepard, with Casey Affleck serving as a producer.
