Take Me Home Tonight is a comedy set in the late 1980s, a time of conspicuous wealth and Wall Street ambition. Matt Franklin has graduated from MIT but has no interest in the corporate career his family expects. Instead he works at a video store, a choice that baffles his father and puzzles those around him. When Tori, the girl he admired throughout high school, unexpectedly walks into the shop, Matt claims to work at a major investment bank. The lie opens the door to a Labor Day party, where Matt arrives with his twin sister Wendy and his best friend Barry, and where the pretense becomes harder to maintain as the night goes on.
Michael Dowse directed the film, which sits third in his filmography after It's All Gone Pete Tong and Fubar II, and ahead of Goon and What If. Jackie Filgo and Jeff Filgo wrote the screenplay, and Topher Grace leads a cast that includes Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer, Chris Pratt and Michael Biehn.
The production had a budget of 19 million USD and took about 7 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3/10 from around 58,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6/10 from 739 votes, a similar audience result across both. The film critics' rating of 4.6/10 from 110 reviews is clearly lower than the audience scores.
