Short description
Set in the high-stakes world of the financial industry, involving the key players at an investment firm during one perilous 24-hour period in the early stages of the 2008 financial crisis. An entry-level analyst unlocks information that could prove to be the downfall of the firm.
What's left behind the scenes
- According to the screenwriter Jay C. Chandor, he contemplated the film's script for about a year and a half, and then wrote it in just 4 days.
- Jeremy Irons' work visa expired right before the start of filming scenes involving him. His agency had to arrange a new work visa for him through the British Embassy, and also involve several American senators who helped speed up the process (it usually takes 2-3 weeks).
- According to screenwriter J.C. Chandor, he spent about a year and a half conceptualizing the film's script, but wrote it in just four days.
- The role of John Tull was initially offered to Sir Ben Kingsley, but he declined due to commitments to other projects, and the part went to Jeremy Irons. Similarly, Carla Gugino was set to play Sarah Robinson, but she backed out at the last moment and was replaced by Demi Moore. Billy Crudup and Tim Robbins were also interested in appearing in the film, but they were unable to fit it into their schedules.
- The scene in the board room with the actors Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, and Kevin Spacey took 12 hours to film. This took place on the shortest night in July 2010, and the rising sun even flashes briefly in the shot.
