Rendition

Rendition follows Anwar El-Ibrahimi, a chemical engineer of Egyptian origin who has settled in the United States with his American wife, Isabella. Flying home from a business trip in South Africa, he is detained by American authorities on suspicion of terrorist links and transferred to a secret facility outside the country, where he is interrogated under harsh methods. While Isabella presses for information about her husband's whereabouts, Douglas Freeman, a CIA analyst, becomes involved in the interrogation and begins to question the operation he is part of. Corrine Whitman, a senior official, and Senator Hawkins figure in the decisions surrounding Anwar's detention.

The film was directed by Gavin Hood, who made it directly after Tsotsi and before X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It was written by Kelley Sane and produced by Steve Golin, David Kanter and Mark Martin. Reese Witherspoon plays Isabella, Jake Gyllenhaal plays Douglas, and Meryl Streep, Alan Arkin, Peter Sarsgaard and Omar Metwally appear alongside them, in a production with 66 credited cast members and 43 credited crew.

Released in 2007, Rendition runs 120 minutes and belongs to the drama and thriller genres. Made for a budget of 28 million USD, it took about 27 million USD worldwide, less than its cost.
