Always Be My Maybe

Sasha and Marcus grew up as close friends in the same neighbourhood, and for a time it seemed they might become something more. A falling-out ends that, and the two spend fifteen years apart. When they meet again as adults, Sasha is a well-known chef with a life built around restaurants and travel, while Marcus still plays music in their hometown and remains close to his father. The attraction they once felt returns, but their circumstances have moved in different directions, and both have to work out whether the pull between them can survive the distance between the worlds they now inhabit.

Directed by Nahnatchka Khan, this 2019 American comedy was written by Randall Park, Ali Wong and Michael Golamco, with Park and Wong also producing. It was Khan's first feature film; she went on to direct Totally Killer in 2023. Wong and Park lead the cast as Sasha and Marcus, supported by James Saito, Michelle Buteau and Vivian Bang, with Keanu Reeves appearing as himself. The romance centres on the two leads and their shared history rather than on a large ensemble.

Khan's film opened in 2019 and runs 102 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.7 from roughly 66,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.6 from around 1,400. Its critics' rating stands at 7.1 from about 100 reviews, noticeably above both audience scores.
