Short description
Following the crash of an extraterrestrial vessel in Moscow, a young woman from Chertanovo discovers she possesses growing supernatural abilities. As she is studied by military and scientific personnel, her powers attract the attention of an advanced alien civilization. This interest leads to a planned invasion of Earth, forcing humanity to rely on compassion and emotional strength to survive the conflict.
Directed by Fyodor Bondarchuk, the film follows Attraction in his chronology of work and precedes Attraction 3. The production was a Russian venture involving Cinema Fund, Art Pictures Studio, and Vodorod Film Company. The cast features Alexander Petrov, Irina Starshenbaum, Oleg Menshikov, Rinal Mukhametov, Yuriy Borisov, and Sergey Garmash.
Financially, the film had a budget of 944 million USD but earned 17 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is mixed, with a rating of 5.6/10 on IMDb based on 6,900 votes and a higher rating of 6.9/10 on TMDB from 918 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film was shot by two crews. One consisted of around 200 people, and the other had no fewer than 80. For filming the most complex scenes, the crews were combined, resulting in approximately 450 people on and near the set at the same time.
- According to the filmmakers, after the film's release, talk of a sequel didn't even come up initially. The idea only emerged several months later.
- The process of applying makeup to Alexander Petrov for the role of Artem – including hair extensions and applying fake tattoos and scars – took no less than 3 hours.
- Preparing for filming in and underwater, Irina Starshenbaum (who played Yulia Lebedeva) began taking diving lessons two months before the start of filming. Her record for continuous time spent in the water during filming is 15 hours.
