Beyond

Leena receives news that her mother is dying in her hometown in southern Sweden. Accompanied by her husband and two daughters, she travels to the hospital to see her mother for the first time since becoming an adult. The journey forces Leena to confront a traumatic childhood marked by her parents' alcoholism and domestic instability. Through these memories, she struggles to resolve the grief and pain of her youth to find a way to move forward in her life.

Directed by Pernilla August, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Lolita Ray, the film features Noomi Rapace in the lead role of Leena. The cast also includes Ola Rapace, Outi Mäenpää, Ville Virtanen, Tehilla Blad, and Junior Blad. A co-production between Denmark, Finland, and Sweden, the project was produced by SVT, Film i Skåne, Blind Spot Pictures, and the MEDIA Programme of the European Union.

The film had a budget of 3 million USD and earned 6 million USD at the worldwide box office, doubling its production cost. Audience reception has been generally positive, with a rating of 7/10 on IMDb based on 4,600 votes and a score of 6.5/10 on TMDB from 61 votes.
