Oscar and the Lady in Pink

Oscar is a ten-year-old boy living in a children's hospital, where neither his parents nor his doctors are willing to tell him the truth about his illness. After overhearing a conversation he was not meant to hear, he learns he has only a short time left and withdraws, refusing to speak to anyone. The one person he will talk to is Rose, a blunt pizza delivery woman he meets on the hospital stairs. To draw him out of his isolation, Rose proposes a game: each remaining day should count for ten years, letting him experience a full lifetime in the time he has. She also encourages him to write letters to God, in which he confides his fears, his joys and his first feelings of love, while his friendships with other young patients take shape around him.

The film is a Belgian, Canadian and French co-production directed by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, who also wrote the screenplay, with Philippe Godeau, Bruno Metzger and Olivier Rausin producing. Amir Ben Abdelmoumen plays Oscar and Michèle Laroque plays Rose, with Max von Sydow, Mylène Demongeot, Jérôme Kircher and Amira Casar in supporting roles. Running 105 minutes, it was released in November 2009 and took in roughly 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from about 1,700 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.5 out of 10 from around 85 votes, indicating a small but generally favourable audience response.
