• Rachel Weisz's character attempts to commit suicide, but is rescued just in time. The thing is, gas back then was colorless and practically odorless—unlike today, when gas consists mainly of methane, which is easy to smell. This makes its presence more noticeable and reduces the risk of accidental poisoning.
• Director and screenwriter Terence own Davis expressed a desire to cast Rachel Weisz as Hester Collyer after seeing her in Bibane Kidron's melodrama 'Swept Away' (1997). Prior to watching this film, he was unaware of her existence. Davis contacted his agent and asked for information about Weisz's background. The agent replied that she was, in fact, an Oscar-winning actress, having won Best Supporting Actress for Yorgos Lanthimos's drama 'The Favourite' (2018). Upon learning this, Weisz merely smirked. She decided that Davis likely knew very little about actors and actresses who hadn't appeared in black-and-white films.
