May the Devil Take You

Alfie has grown distant from her father over the years, so news of his sudden and unexplained illness brings her back to a family she barely knows. He is bankrupt and comatose, and the only thing left is an isolated villa in the forest. There she meets her stepmother and stepsiblings, including Maya, who blames Alfie for the family's troubles. As strange events begin to unfold around them, Alfie searches for the cause of her father's condition and finds something far worse than she expected.

Timo Tjahjanto wrote and directed this Indonesian horror film, which followed his action features Headshot and The Night Comes For Us. Chelsea Islan plays Alfie, with Pevita Pearce as Maya, Karina Suwandi, Ray Sahetapy and Ruth Marini among the cast.

Released in August 2018, the film took about 3 million dollars worldwide, a modest return for an Indonesian genre production. On IMDb it holds 5.9 from roughly 5,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from 191 votes. A critics' rating of 5.5 from 14 reviews places it close to the audience score, suggesting a mixed but not dismissive reception. Tjahjanto continued working in horror and action afterward, including the anthology V/H/S/94.
