Franz Eberhofer is content as the village policeman in Niederkaltenkirchen, so his promotion and transfer to Munich unsettle him. In the city he shares a flat with his eccentric friend Rudi, and his new superior turns out to be his rival Thin Lizzy. A murder case soon gives him a reason to return to his home village: a body has been found in his father's Opel Admiral. Meanwhile, the successful businessman Karl-Heinz Fleischmann is pursuing Franz's girlfriend Susi, which pushes Franz toward the marriage proposal he has long avoided.
Sauerkrautkoma is a German-Austrian comedy crime film directed by Ed Herzog, who wrote the screenplay with Stefan Betz. It is the fifth entry in the series of adaptations of Rita Falk's Bavarian crime novels that Herzog directed in the order shown here, following Dampfnudelblues, Schweinskopf al dente and The Dumpling Affair, with Leberkäsjunkie, Kaiserschmarrndrama, Guglhupfgeschwader, Rehragout-Rendezvous and Steckerlfischfiasko coming later. Sebastian Bezzel plays Franz, Simon Schwarz plays Rudi, Lisa Maria Potthoff plays Susi, and Enzi Fuchs, Eisi Gulp and Gerhard Wittmann appear as members of the Eberhofer family. The production involved 48 credited cast members and 63 credited crew members, and it took about 8 million dollars worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.8 from around 2,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.1 from roughly 106 votes. The two audience scores are close to each other and indicate a generally favourable response, with the much larger vote count on IMDb giving its figure more weight.
