Kate Conrad, a Manhattan empty nester, plans a second honeymoon with her husband to fill the void left when their son leaves for college. Before the trip can happen, her husband ends the marriage, and Kate decides to travel to Africa alone for the safari she had booked. There she meets Derek Holliston, a pilot, and the two rescue an orphaned baby elephant and bring it to a local animal sanctuary in Zambia. Caring for the calf leads Kate to extend her stay, with the possibility of a new relationship taking shape.
Ernie Barbarash directed the film, the twelfth of the eighteen features he has made in chronological order, following A Royal Winter and preceding Abduction. Neal H. Dobrofsky and Tippi Dobrofsky wrote the screenplay, and Kristin Davis and Rob Lowe lead a cast of twenty-one credited performers as Kate and Derek, with Fezile Mpela, John Owen Lowe, Colin Moss and Hayley Owen in supporting roles. The American production was released in November 2019 and runs eighty-five minutes.
On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.2 from roughly 19,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from a much smaller base of some 573 votes. A critics' score of 4.6 from seven reviews places it below both audience measures, though the size of the audience samples suggests a modest, mainly genre-oriented following rather than a broad one.
