Rampant

In seventeenth-century Joseon, a kingdom paying tribute to the Qing dynasty, the paranoid King Lee Jo sees conspirators and rebels at every turn. A dark threat arrives aboard a merchant ship, bringing an infection that turns people into bloodthirsty creatures that hunt after nightfall. Meanwhile, the exiled Prince Lee Cheong returns to the royal court after the death of his brother, intending only to escort his brother's pregnant wife to safety. Instead, he is drawn into the power struggles at court and forced to defend the kingdom against both the plague and those who would exploit it. Hyun Bin plays the prince, with Jang Dong-gun as Kim Ja-joon, Jo Woo-jin, Jeong Man-sik, Lee Sun-bin and Kim Eui-sung rounding out the cast.

Rampant was released in October 2018 and runs 122 minutes. It was directed by Kim Sung-hoon, whose first feature, Confidential Assignment, appeared in 2017; this film followed in 2018 and precedes his two 2025 releases, Love Barista and CODE : G. The screenplay is credited to Hwang Jo-yoon and Won Shin-yun, with Lee Han-seung and Kim Sung-hoon producing.

On TMDB the film holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from 244 votes. A critics' score of 6 out of 10 from 13 reviews places critical opinion roughly in line with the audience response, both indicating a moderately received genre blend of action, drama, fantasy and horror from Korea.
