Teenager Kayla Logan is being driven to dance camp by her father, Jay, when she spots her best friend Brittany waiting by the roadside. Kayla insists they give her a lift. What begins as a small kindness ends in a crisis that pulls in Kayla's mother, Rebecca, a lawyer from a wealthier world than her ex-husband's, and forces the estranged couple to decide how far they will go to shield their daughter.
The Lie is a 2018 thriller directed by Veena Sud, who also wrote the screenplay. It was produced by Jason Blum with Alix Madigan and Christopher Tricarico, and was made by Blumhouse Productions with Amazon Studios, Blumhouse Television and Mad Dog Films. The three leads are Peter Sarsgaard as Jay, Mireille Enos as Rebecca and Joey King as Kayla. It runs 95 minutes.
The film holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 on TMDB from 809 votes, a modest but engaged response. It was Sud's first feature as director, arriving before The Stranger in 2024, and it followed her work as creator and showrunner of television drama, marking a move into feature-length suspense built around a family under pressure.
