The Perfect Date

Brooks Rattigan is a high school student with expensive ambitions: he wants to study at Yale and drive a nice car, but he has no money to pay for any of it. While working at a sandwich shop, he is paid to take a wealthy classmate's cousin, Celia, out for an evening. The arrangement gives him an idea. He builds an app through which girls can book him as a stand-in boyfriend for a night, choosing the personality they want him to play. The business takes off, and Brooks finds himself cycling through different roles for different clients, including Shelby, a popular girl he has long admired. The more he pretends, the more he has to work out who he actually is and what he wants.

Chris Nelson directed the film, his third feature after Ass Backwards and Date and Switch. Steve Bloom and Randall Green wrote the screenplay, and Matt Kaplan and John J. Tomko produced it for Awesomeness Films and ACE Entertainment. Noah Centineo plays Brooks, with Laura Marano as Celia, Camila Mendes as Shelby, Odiseas Georgiadis as Murph, Matt Walsh as Brooks's father Charlie and Joe Chrest as Jerry Lieberman.

The film runs 90 minutes and was released in April 2019. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from over 42,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4 from more than 3,300 votes. A critics' rating of 6.1 from 19 reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a broadly similar middle-ground response from both groups.
