Monday is a romantic drama about two Americans living in Athens whose chance meeting on a Friday quickly turns into an intense weekend together. Mickey is a musician, Chloe an attorney, and both are self-destructive enough that the connection is as turbulent as it is passionate. The film follows them through the Greek capital and the islands, and asks what happens when the euphoria of a weekend fling collides with the ordinary demands of the Monday that follows.
Argyris Papadimitropoulos directed the film, his second feature after Suntan in 2016, and wrote the screenplay with Rob Hayes. Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough lead as Mickey and Chloe, with Dominique Tipper, Vangelis Mourikis, Yorgos Pirpassopoulos and Elli Tringou in supporting roles. Damian Jones, Christos V. Konstantakopoulos and Deanna Barillari produced the film, a co-production between the United Kingdom, Greece and the United States.
Released in April 2021, Monday drew mixed responses. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 from roughly 6,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from 183 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 from 76 reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting neither critics nor viewers found it a clear success.
