Frankie & Alice

Frankie & Alice centres on Frankie, a go-go dancer in Los Angeles whose life is disrupted by blackouts and episodes she cannot explain. She becomes a patient of a psychotherapist, Dr. Oz, who comes to believe that a second personality lives inside her: Alice, a racist white woman whose views and violence surface without warning. Frankie's mother, Edna, and her sister, Maxine, are at a loss as she tries to hold on to her own identity while Alice threatens to take over. Much of the film concerns the effort to trace where this condition began.

Geoffrey Sax directed, working from a screenplay by Cheryl Edwards, Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse. It followed his earlier features White Noise and Stormbreaker. Halle Berry, who also produced, plays Frankie; Stellan Skarsgård plays Oz, with Phylicia Rashād as Edna, Chandra Wilson as Maxine, Adrian Holmes as Cliff and Melanie Papalia as Tina. The film runs 101 minutes.

Released in December 2010, Frankie & Alice is a Canadian production made by Access Motion Pictures, Reality Pictures In Motion and F & A Production Services. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from 114 votes, a modest score that suggests a mixed but not dismissive response to a film built around its lead performance.
