Black Bread

Set in rural Catalonia during the harsh years after the Spanish Civil War, Black Bread follows Andreu, a boy from a family on the losing side of the conflict. While walking in the forest he comes across the bodies of a man and his son. The authorities suspect his father, and Andreu sets out to find who was actually responsible. His search draws him into an adult world built on secrets and lies, and the experience shapes his moral awareness and forces him to confront what he is capable of.

Agustí Villaronga directed and wrote the screenplay; the film came a decade after his earlier feature The Sea. Francesc Colomer plays Andreu, with Marina Comas, Nora Navas, Roger Casamajor, Lluïsa Castell and Mercé Arànega in supporting roles. Isona Passola, Lluís Ferrando and Elisa Plaza produced the Spanish production, made by TV3 and Massa d'Or Produccions.

Released in October 2010 and running 108 minutes, the film is a crime drama that earned about four million dollars worldwide against a budget of roughly six million. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.9 from around 5,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from roughly 127 votes, indicating a modest but consistent reception across both audiences.
