Mr. Popper's Penguins

Tom Popper is a New York real estate agent focused on closing a career-defining deal, to the neglect of his two children. His life is upended when his late father, an explorer, leaves him six penguins. The birds take over his luxury apartment, wrecking his routines and complicating both his work and his family relationships, and his attempts to pass them on prove anything but simple.

Mark Waters directed the film, the seventh of the fifteen features he has directed in chronological order, following Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and preceding Vampire Academy. Sean Anders, John Morris and Jared Stern wrote the screenplay, and John Davis produced. Jim Carrey plays Mr. Popper, with Carla Gugino as Amanda, Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Van Gundy, Ophelia Lovibond as Pippi, Madeline Carroll as Janie and Clark Gregg as Nat Jones. The film is based on the children's book by Richard and Florence Atwater.

Released in June 2011 and running 94 minutes, the comedy earned about 187 million dollars worldwide against a budget of 55 million. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from roughly 112,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from about 3,200 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 out of 10 from 142 reviews sits below those audience scores.
