Daydream Nation

Daydream Nation centres on Caroline Wexler, a sharp seventeen-year-old who is uprooted from the city when her widowed father takes a job in a small industrial town. Finding little in common with her new classmates, she fixes her attention on Barry Anderson, a young teacher at her school, and the two begin an affair. A stoner classmate named Thurston is drawn to Caroline as well, and her involvement with both of them becomes entangled with trouble in the town around them.

The film was directed and written by Michael Goldbach and produced by Christine Haebler, Simone Urdl and Jennifer Weiss through Lila 9th Productions, marking Goldbach's first time directing a feature of his own screenplay. Kat Dennings leads as Caroline, with Reece Thompson as Thurston and Josh Lucas as Anderson; Andie MacDowell, Rachel Blanchard and Natasha Calis appear in supporting roles among a credited cast of twenty-four. Released in 2011, it runs 98 minutes and blends drama and romance with a Canadian setting.

Reception was moderate. On IMDb it holds a 6.3 rating from roughly 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from about 176 votes, so viewers overall rate it slightly above average. A critics' score of 6 out of 10 from 21 reviews places it roughly in line with the audience response rather than clearly above or below it.
