I Know Who Killed Me
Short description
A young woman named Aubrey Fleming is abducted and tortured by a serial killer in her small town. She survives and wakes up in a hospital, but insists she is someone else entirely and that the real Aubrey is still in danger. The people around her, including her parents and an FBI agent, treat her claim as a delusion, even as injuries keep appearing on her body.
Chris Sivertson directed the film, his first feature, which came before All Cheerleaders Die, Heartthrob, Shattered Memories and Monstrous. Jeff Hammond wrote the screenplay, and Frank Mancuso Jr. produced. Lindsay Lohan plays Aubrey, with Julia Ormond and Neal McDonough as her parents, Garcelle Beauvais as Julie Bascome, and Spencer Garrett and Gregory Itzin in supporting roles. The production involved 39 credited cast members and 52 credited crew members.
Made for about 12 million dollars, the film returned roughly 10 million worldwide, less than its budget. On IMDb it holds a rating of 3.6 out of 10 from around 32,000 votes, and on TMDB 4.4 out of 10 from just over 400 votes. A critics' rating of 2.7 out of 10 from 77 reviews places it below even the audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- During filming, Lindsay Lohan did not present herself in the best light: she was either late to the set or didn't show up for filming at all. While working on the finale, director Chris Sivertson filmed a body double in the days Lohan didn't come, and Lohan's face was superimposed using computer technology.
- For the role of the stripper, Lindsay Lohan took pole dancing lessons. She did not appear completely nude during filming due to a corresponding clause in her contract.
- Paparazzi were constantly present on the set, filming Lindsay Lohan even when she was simply walking to her trailer. Sometimes they even ended up in the background of shots.
- "I Know Who Killed Me" is the third film in which Lindsay Lohan plays two different characters. In "The Parent Trap" she played twins, Hallie Parker and Annie James, and in "Freaky Friday" she played a teenage girl and her mother.
- In the final version of the original script, it was revealed that both Aubrey and Dakota were not real, and that the whole film was simply a script written by some anonymous student (who was also played by Lindsay Lohan). Audiences at test screenings criticized this ending as too "predictable", and it was changed.
