Kalashnikov AK-47

Kalashnikov AK-47 follows Mikhail Kalashnikov, a young tank commander who is badly wounded in combat in 1941 and left unable to return to the front. While recovering, the self-taught inventor begins sketching ideas for a new firearm, and his designs eventually place him in competition with the Soviet Union's established weapons designers. The film dramatizes the years of work that led to the adoption of the AK-47 and also shows his relationship with Katya, his future wife. It is a Russian production directed by Konstantin Buslov, his first feature, with a screenplay by Sergei Bodrov, Anatoli Usov and Alexey Borodachev; Bodrov and Buslov also produced it. Yuriy Borisov plays Kalashnikov, with Olga Lerman as Katya and supporting turns from Artur Smolyaninov, Eldar Kalimulin, Vitaliy Khaev and Valeriy Barinov.

Made for about four million dollars, the film earned roughly two million dollars worldwide, meaning it did not recover its budget at the box office. On IMDb it holds a 6.6 rating from around six thousand votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.4 from fewer than four hundred votes. The gap suggests a warmer response from that smaller audience than from the larger IMDb group, though both indicate moderate rather than strong approval. Buslov went on to direct Fierce Town.
