Jesse Stone has left his job as Paradise's police chief, but he cannot stay away from trouble. When a young woman he once tried to help is found dead in a car near his home, the official explanation is a drug overdose. Jesse knew her well and doubts that account, so he begins looking into her death on his own. At the same time, Paradise is adjusting to an arrogant new police chief, whose position owes something to his connections at the town council, and the changes he brings unsettle the officers who worked under Jesse. A request from Boston adds a second problem: a convicted killer has confessed, yet the commander who arrested him is not convinced the man committed the crime, and he wants Jesse's help.
The film is the seventh television movie in the Jesse Stone series and was directed by Dick Lowry, appearing ninth in the chronological list of his feature credits between Category 7: The End of the World and later work. Tom Selleck stars as Jesse Stone and wrote the screenplay with Michael Brandman; Steven J. Brandman produced. Kathy Baker, Kohl Sudduth, Gloria Reuben, Stephen McHattie and William Sadler are among the 27 credited cast members. The production came from Sony Pictures Television Studios, Brandman Productions and TWS Productions II. On IMDb it holds a 7.1 rating from roughly 4,400 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from 88 votes, a smaller but noticeably cooler response.
