Rebecca returns to her grandfather's house and reconnects with Thomas, a childhood friend with whom she once shared a youthful romance. The two become lovers, but Thomas dies in a car accident shortly afterward. Unwilling to accept the loss, Rebecca turns to cloning: she has Thomas replicated and carries the child herself, raising the boy in a quiet coastal town while keeping his origins from him. As he grows from infancy toward adulthood, the bond between them takes on troubling dimensions, and Rebecca is left to reckon with the consequences of her decision.
This science fiction romance was directed and written by Benedek Fliegauf, his third feature after From Europe Into Europe (2004) and Sparkle (2008), and followed later by Hungary 2011 (2012). Eva Green plays Rebecca, with Matt Smith as Thomas, and Lesley Manville, Peter Wight, István Lénárt and Hannah Murray in supporting roles. The film was a German, Hungarian and French co-production made for about 3 million USD, and runs 111 minutes.
