Miami Connection

Miami Connection follows a martial arts rock band called Dragon Sound, whose members study taekwondo together and perform at a local club. Their lives are upended when a gang of motorcycle-riding ninjas tightens its control over the narcotics trade in Florida, drawing the band into a conflict that goes well beyond the stage. When the group refuses to back down, the two sides are set on a collision course.

The film was directed by Y.K. Kim and Richard Park Wu-sang, and it was Kim's second feature after Manager Of The Shaolin Hall in 1982. Kim also stars as Mark and wrote the screenplay with Joseph Diamand, who appears as Jack. The cast includes Vincent Hirsch, Maurice Smith, Angelo Janotti and Kathy Collier as Jane. It was produced on a budget of about one million dollars, runs 87 minutes and blends action and crime with music.

Released in August 1987, the film received a 5.8/10 critics' rating from 19 reviews, placing it slightly above its audience scores. On IMDb it holds 5.6/10 from around 7,400 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.2/10 from roughly 155 votes. The much larger vote count on IMDb suggests a modest but wider presence than the smaller TMDB sample, and the audience ratings cluster in the middle of the scale.
