Portrait of a Beauty

Set in the Joseon era, this drama follows Yoon-jeong, a gifted artist born into a family of court painters. Because women are forbidden from practicing professionally, she secretly paints for her brother. After his death, she assumes his identity and lives as a man to preserve her family's honor and continue her work. While her skill earns the respect of the master painter Kim Hong-do, her unconventional depictions of women draw condemnation from the royal institution. This deception creates a central conflict as she falls in love with Kang-mu and struggles between her professional ambitions and her desire to live authentically as a woman.

The film was directed by Jeon Yun-su, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Han Su-ryeon. The main cast features Kim Gyu-ri in the lead role, alongside Kim Young-ho, Kim Nam-gil, Choo Ja-hyun, Han Myung-goo, and Park Ji-il. Produced by companies including CJ Entertainment and Sponge, the movie features a credited cast of 50 performers.
