Compañeros

During the Mexican Revolution, the arms dealer Yodlaf Peterson travels to a village controlled by the guerrilla leader General Mongo. Mongo has money for weapons, but it is locked in a bank safe, and the only person who knows the combination is Professor Xantos, an advocate of nonviolent opposition held prisoner by the American military. Yodlaf agrees to break Xantos out and sets off with the reluctant fighter El Vasco, while a rival figure from Yodlaf's past, the knife-carrying John, works against them.

Compañeros is a Zapata Western directed by Sergio Corbucci, the ninth of the fourteen films he directed in chronological order, following The Specialists and preceding The Beast. Corbucci wrote the screenplay with Massimo De Rita and Dino Maiuri. Franco Nero plays Yodlaf, Tomás Milián plays El Vasco, Jack Palance plays John, Fernando Rey plays Professor Xantos, and Iris Berben and José Bódalo appear as Lola and General Mongo Alvarez.
