The Unjust

A string of killings has shaken Seoul, and the police have failed to catch whoever is responsible. When a suspect dies during arrest, the investigation stalls and the case becomes a political problem. Under pressure from above, detective Choi Cheol-gi is offered a promotion if he manufactures a culprit, a deal arranged through an underworld contact. His efforts draw in a prosecutor whose own interests collide with those of the men behind the scheme.

Ryoo Seung-wan directed this crime thriller, which was written by Park Hoon-jung and released in late 2010. It falls in the middle of Ryoo's filmography, between The City of Violence and The Berlin File, and among the ten features he had directed to that point. The cast is led by Hwang Jung-min as Choi Cheol-gi, with Ryoo Seung-bum, Yoo Hae-jin, Cheon Ho-jin, Ma Dong-seok and Woo Jung-kook in supporting roles.

The film took roughly 19 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 from around 2,800 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.6 from about 121 votes, indicating modest but similar levels of approval from both audiences.
