Bliss is a science-fiction drama about Greg Wittle, a man whose life has come apart after a recent divorce and the loss of his job. He meets Isabel Clemens, a woman living on the streets who insists that the polluted, damaged world around them is not real, but a computer simulation. Greg is skeptical at first, yet as he spends time with her, he begins to find reasons to think her claims might hold some truth. The film blends romance with questions about which version of reality the characters should trust.
Mike Cahill directed and wrote the screenplay, following Another Earth and I Origins in his filmography. Owen Wilson plays Greg and Salma Hayek Pinault plays Isabel, with Nesta Cooper, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Ronny Chieng and Steve Zissis among the credited cast of 59. The production involved Endgame Entertainment, Amazon Studios and Big Indie Pictures, and the film runs 104 minutes.
Reception was mixed. On IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from around 22,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 out of 10 from 683 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 105 reviews places professional opinion slightly below the audience scores, suggesting the film drew modest enthusiasm from both viewers and reviewers.
