Fracture
Short description
Ted Crawford, an engineer, shoots his wife and is arrested at the scene. What looks like a straightforward case for the prosecution becomes complicated when procedural problems put his release in doubt. The case falls to Willy Beachum, an ambitious deputy district attorney who is about to leave for a job at a private law firm. Crawford decides to represent himself, and the two men become locked in a contest in which each tries to outmaneuver the other, and in which Beachum's own future is at stake.
Gregory Hoblit directed, working from a screenplay by Daniel Pyne and Glenn Gers, with Charles Weinstock producing. It was Hoblit's sixth film as director, following Frequency and Hart's War. Anthony Hopkins plays Crawford and Ryan Gosling plays Beachum; David Strathairn, Rosamund Pike, Embeth Davidtz and Billy Burke appear in supporting roles, among a credited cast of fifty. The film was made for about 10 million dollars and took around 91 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 from roughly 234,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.3 from more than 4,400 votes. A critics' rating of 6.6 from 170 reviews places it below both audience scores. The runtime is 113 minutes. It is a German and American co-production.
