Her Blue Sky is a Japanese animated film about two sisters living in a small mountain town. Thirteen years after their parents died in an accident, Akane has stayed behind to raise her younger sister Aoi, giving up her plan to move to Tokyo with her boyfriend, the guitarist Shinnosuke Kanamuro. Aoi, now in high school and learning to play bass, feels responsible for the life her sister set aside and intends to leave for Tokyo after graduation to build a music career. When a famous enka singer invites Aoi to perform at a local festival, Shinnosuke returns to town after a long absence, and a younger version of him, the Shinno of thirteen years earlier, also appears. Aoi finds herself drawn to someone for the first time.
Tatsuyuki Nagai directed the film, the third in the run of features listed for him after anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day - The Movie in 2013 and The Anthem of the Heart in 2015. Mari Okada wrote the screenplay, and the voice cast includes Shion Wakayama as Aoi, Ryo Yoshizawa as Shinnosuke and Shinno, Riho Yoshioka as Akane and Ken Matsudaira as Dankichi Nitobe.
Released in Japan in October 2019, the film took in about 5 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from around 2,200 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.4 out of 10 from far fewer votes.
