Girl 6

Judy, a young Black actress in New York City, is trying to build a career on stage and screen. After a series of rejections leaves her without money or work, her manager, Murray, pushes her toward an audition with director Quentin Tarantino, who is casting a film with Black actors. The audition goes badly, and Judy, disillusioned, takes a job that also calls on her performing skills and pays well: phone sex. Her initial shyness fades, and she becomes one of the agency's most requested voices, known as Girl 6, while the work pulls her further into a world of fantasy and desire.

Spike Lee directed Girl 6, his ninth film as director in chronological order, following Clockers in 1995 and preceding He Got Game in 1998. He also produced it, from a screenplay by Suzan-Lori Parks, and appears in the cast as Jimmy. Theresa Randle plays Judy, with Isaiah Washington, Jenifer Lewis, Debi Mazar and Peter Berg among the credited cast of 64. Fox Searchlight Pictures and Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks produced the film, which was released on March 22, 1996 and runs 108 minutes.

The film is a comedy-drama that mixes Judy's story with the calls and callers she encounters. Against a budget of 12 million USD, it took in about 5 million USD worldwide.
