The Sleepover

Clancy and her younger brother Kevin are hosting a sleepover with their friends when they stumble onto a secret about their mother, Margot. She appears to be an ordinary, overprotective suburban parent, but she is in fact a former professional thief who entered witness protection after cooperating with authorities. Margot and the children's father are then taken and forced to carry out one more job alongside a man from her past, leaving the kids to organize a rescue across a single eventful night.

The film is directed by Trish Sie, whose earlier work includes Step Up All In and Pitch Perfect 3; it is the third of the five features she has directed, arriving between Pitch Perfect 3 and Sitting in Bars with Cake. Sarah Rothschild wrote the screenplay, and Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon produced. Sadie Stanley plays Clancy and Maxwell Simkins plays Kevin, with Cree Cicchino and Lucas Jaye among the friends, while Malin Åkerman and Ken Marino appear as the parents. Thirty-one cast members are credited.

Released in August 2020, the film runs 101 minutes and mixes action with family comedy. Its ratings sit in middling territory rather than at either extreme. On IMDb, the score is 5.7 from about 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it is 6.4 from roughly 455 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 from 21 reviews places critical opinion slightly above the IMDb audience figure and close to the TMDB one.
