Megan Is Missing

Megan Is Missing follows two fourteen-year-old best friends in Los Angeles whose lives revolve around the internet, where they post videos and talk with boys. Megan is the outgoing, popular one; Amy is shy and often bullied. After Megan arranges to meet a young man she has been chatting with online, who calls himself Josh, she disappears. Amy sets out to find her, and the recordings the girls left behind gradually expose what happened, told largely through webcams, video diaries and television reports.

Michael Goi wrote and directed the film, which was produced by Mark Gragnani through Trio Pictures and runs 86 minutes. It was Goi's first feature as director, followed years later by Mary and by Avatar: The Last Airbender - Premiere. Amber Perkins plays Amy and Rachel Quinn plays Megan, with Dean Waite as Josh; the credited cast numbers 31. The story draws on real cases of child abduction, and the found-footage presentation gives it a documentary-like surface.

Audience responses differ sharply. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 4.6 from around 21,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from a much smaller pool of 879 votes, a gap that reflects how divisive its grim subject matter and restrained approach to on-screen violence have proved.
