Short description
Set in New Mexico during May 2020, this crime comedy western focuses on the escalating conflict between Joe Cross, the local sheriff, and Mayor Ted Garcia. As the town of Eddington navigates the restrictions of a pandemic, the rivalry between the two men intensifies, leading Cross to challenge Garcia for the mayoralty. This political struggle creates deep divisions among the residents, turning neighbors against one another and threatening the stability of the small community.
The film was written and directed by Ari Aster, following his previous works The Strange Thing About the Johnsons, Hereditary, Midsommar, and Beau Is Afraid. The cast features Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Deirdre O'Connell, Micheal Ward, and Cameron Mann. Produced by A24 and other companies, the project had a budget of 25 million USD and earned 14 million USD at the worldwide box office.

What's left behind the scenes
- Director, screenwriter, and producer Ari Aster wrote the screenplay long before the coronavirus pandemic and originally planned to make it his directorial debut. He later rewrote and adapted the “Eddington” screenplay to reflect the new realities.
- At the beginning of the film, Joaquin Phoenix's character watches a YouTube video on his phone, but the YouTube interface design does not match the design of the year in which the events take place.
- A knife sticks out of the forehead of one of the dolls held by the character played by Emma Stone, hinting at what will happen to the character's husband.
- Christopher Abbott was originally planned for the role of Vernon, but he was busy filming the horror movie "The Wolfman," and Austin Butler played Vernon instead.
