Eiffel
Short description
Set in late 19th-century Paris, this romantic drama follows engineer Gustave Eiffel. After completing his work on the Statue of Liberty, Eiffel faces pressure from the French government to create a spectacular landmark for the 1889 World Fair. While he is primarily interested in designing the city's subway system, his perspective shifts when he reunites with a woman from his youth. Their rekindled passion inspires him to design the massive iron tower that would eventually become the symbol of the city.
The film was directed by Martin Bourboulon, following his 2015 work Daddy or Mommy and preceding several other projects, including The Three Musketeers films and 13 Days, 13 Nights. The movie stars Romain Duris as Eiffel and Emma Mackey as Adrienne Bourgès, supported by a credited cast of 29.
Produced by companies in France, Germany, and Belgium, the film had a budget of 26 million USD and earned 14 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is similar across platforms, with a rating of 6.3/10 on IMDb from 9,000 votes and a 6.2/10 on TMDB based on 739 votes.

- Between the initial idea for the film in 1997 and its release in 2021, the project went through many stages. During this period, many film companies and directors expressed interest in working on the film, including 'Paramount Pictures,' Luc Besson (who considered directing the film with Gérard Depardieu and Isabelle Adjani in 2000), Christophe Barratier, Olivier Dahan, and Ridley Scott. Only up-and-coming producer Vanessa van Schauble brought the idea to fruition, with Martin Bourboulon directing.
